According to the statistics every third person in the world suffers from high blood pressure which is often named as the silent killer. Each day more and more people start suffering from it and its prevalence is rising. As you may already know the blood pressure is measured as diastolic and systolic pressures. Diastolic pressure is the pressure in the arteries when the heart is at rest and systolic pressure is the pressure when the heart beats. Of course this figure is relevant but the ideal blood pressure is less than 120/80. When the pressure becomes more than 120-129/80-89 mm Hg this is the indication of pre-hypertension. So it considered to be high when the device shows 140/90 or more. In order to measure the pressure properly one should first rest for several minutes and do not drink coffee or smoke cigarettes before the procedure for at least half an hour. Even when your bladder is full this can also influence the figures.

Unfortunately even till now in 90 % of cases it is not known the cause of high blood pressure. Mainly the doctors refer it to essential hypertension. In the percentage the reason is a kidney disease or structural abnormality of the aorta or some arteries. You should also know that taking oral contraceptives may also lead to the development of high blood pressure. This second category is called secondary hypertension. On the other hand there are known some common factors that may significantly influence the risk of developing hypertension. To these factors belong high salt intake, obesity, excessive alcohol intake, lack of physical activity and, of course, stress. However even race, age heredity may increase your chances to get the high blood pressure.

High blood pressure is rather dangerous and often leads to other quite serious diseases such as heart attacks, stroke, heart failure, kidney failure, erectile dysfunction and atherosclerosis. It can even cause blindness. It is rather important to support heart health as the risk of heart disease and stroke doubles for every 20 mm Hg increase of blood pressure. The higher the blood pressure is, the greater is the risk of getting complications. So it is quite important to find the best treatment to support the pressure on the proper level.

First of all you will need to change your lifestyle and if you suffer from obesity then you will need to loose weight. It is also important to follow the diet rich in grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat diary products. You will need to perform regular physical activity such as walking for 30 minutes a day. The pharmacologic heart remedies are only required if you have complications, or if your initial blood pressure is very high or if you do not respond to lifestyle changes.
